Will Weaver

Off to college at Saint Cloud State, then the U of MN. Majored in English for and eventually turned to a career of teaching and writing. My novels and short stories often turn toward the experience of my farm background, the land, and Park Rapids itself. Red Earth, White Earth was my first novel, and Sweet Land is a film made from one of my short stories. I taught for many years at Bemidji State, but now am full time at my writing desk.

Skinny farm boy from Dorset school makes the team.... I enjoyed sports (basketball, baseball and cross country), plus the many great teachers. These included Carlton "Ozzie" Anderson, Martin Carter, John Haugo and others.

Funny story? Dave Pilke, the vocational counselor, after looking at my grades when I was a senior, suggested I enroll at Wadena Vo-Tech and take up welding. Now, welding is a perfectly honorable vocation, but it was the farthest thing my mind. Most it was girls, hunting and my green '57 Chevy.
