Lori was self employed for many years as an owner of multiple floral businesses in multiple communities; and eventually ventured into the Bridal and Prom Business. She retired from that business, which she had then relocated to New London, in December of 2018.
As for me, I worked in public schools for the past 45 years, beginning as a Special Education teacher and then school administrator. After initially teaching for seven years in Clara City, I became a Director of Special Education for 15 school districts collectively in the Southwestern part of Minnesota for 13 years. Eventually I became the Superintendent of the Yellow Medicine East Schools, with offices in Granite Falls; and then the Superintendent of the Minnewaska Area Schools of rural Glenwood, Starbuck, and Villard. Before retiring in 2011, my employment took me north and I served as the Assistant Superintendent and Director of Special Education for the Bemidji Area Schools for seven years. Following my formal retirement, I went back to work and served as the Superintendent for the Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley Schools for three years, the Special Education Director in Alexandria for four years, and most recently the Director of the Minnesota Valley Education District in St. Peter from 2016 to 2019. Because I still enjoy working, I continue to work very part time as the Director of Special Education for the Glacial Hills Elementary School in Starbuck.
On a personal note, in the past years we have become cruisers and are having a fantastic time. We have been to some locations multiple times already, but have truly enjoyed the Caribbean sites of Jamaica, the Cayman Islands, Coco Cay, Honduras/Isla Roatan, Belize, Cozumel, Puerto Rico, St. Thomas, St. Kitts, St. Lucia, Curacao, and Aruba, and also Ensenada on Mexico's western coast. Our last cruise was scheduled for March of this year (2020), but was canceled due to the Coronavirus; so we are already planning ahead for the next one sometime yet this year once social distancing is no longer as great of a concern. I guess it's in our blood!!
